APA Style Guide

A guide to using the 7th Edition of the American Psychological Association (APA) Style.

Slide Shows or Presentations

There are no official instructions for formatting a PowerPoint presentation or slideshow in the APA style.

However, most colleges/universities, professionals, and educators follow the general guidelines for formatting their slideshows in the APA style:

  • Include the same information on your title slide that you would have on a title page
  • Include in-text citations for any quote, paraphrase, image, graph, table, data, audio or video file that you use within your presentation: (Author, year).
  • Include a 'References' slide(s) at the end using the same format as an APA-formatted references page.

Notes about images:

  • Do not copy images without permission from the creator or owner of the image. Section 12.15 of the APA manual.
  • Please note that photographs are considered 'figures' in APA style. Section 7.30 of the APA manual.
  • “No citation, permission, or copyright attribution is necessary for clip art from programs like Microsoft Word or PowerPoint” (American Psychological Association [APA], 2020, p. 346).
