Troy: Battlefield of Myth and Truth

Longer than Troy’s fabled siege, Professor Manfred Korfmann’s excavation yielded a royal Hittite seal that corroborates the city’s location. But does it prove Homer’s Iliad is no myth? This program traces the course of the modern search for Troy, beginning with a look at Heinrich Schliemann’s controversial 1870 expedition, reviewing subsequent digs by others, and focusing on Korfmann’s truly groundbreaking research, a meticulous excavation begun in 1988. Immortalized in the Hebrew Bible, the Muslim Koran, and in many Christian traditions, the tale of the queen's journey to meet King Solomon has been told and retold for nearly 3,000 years. He discovers the legend has been told with variant detail: in Africa, she is black—and a woman of power; in Arabia, she's half-woman, half-demon. A part of the series In Search of Myths and Heroes.

Nightline: Wonder Boy, A Story of Transformation

In this special edition of Nightline, Elizabeth Vargas follows Nathaniel Newman's amazing story of transformation: Newman was born with the facial anomaly Treacher Collins syndrome and endured 53 surgeries by age 11. Also interviewed is Wonder author R.J. Palacio, who tells the story behind her inspiration for the acclaimed book—which the Newmans credit with easing Nathaniel's move up to middle school. And, finally, Christina Aguilera surprises the family who was inspired by her song "Beautiful."
