CATE is a non-profit organization promoting communication, collaboration, and educational knowledge among all responsible for teaching English and the language arts. All California English teachers are encouraged to join.

The College English Association (CEA) Conference features panels from academics in all areas of literature, language, film, composition, pedagogy, and creative, professional, and technical writing. CEA also welcomes proposals for presentations in any of the areas English departments typically encompass, including literature criticism and scholarship, creative writing, rhetoric, composition, technical communication, linguistics, and film. They also welcome papers on areas that influence our work as academics, including student demographics, student/instructor accountability and assessment, student advising, academic leadership in departments and programs, and the place of the English department in the university.

The Modern Language Association (MLA) is one of the most well-known academic associations in the United States as it provides opportunities for its members to share their scholarly findings and teaching experiences with colleagues and to discuss trends in academia. MLA hosts an annual convention, works with related organizations, and sustains one of the finest publishing programs in the humanities. The MLA convention is a great opportunity to connect with other scholars in your discipline and to present your latest research to other like-minded academics.

The National Council of Teachers of English is devoted to improving the teaching and learning of English and the language arts at all levels of education. There are 'College' and 'Two Year College' divisions and multiple conference events.

The North American Victorian Studies Association (NAVSA) is a time period-specific association that caters to Victorianists. Each year, the NAVSA hosts an annual conference in North America to discuss the latest research in Victorian studies, and it encourages scholars to present a wide variety of theoretical and disciplinary approaches to Victorian studies. The Pacific and Ancient Modern Language Association (PAMLA) is dedicated to the creation, advancement, and diffusion of knowledge of ancient and modern languages, literatures, media, cultures, and the arts. PAMLA is a western regional affiliate of the Modern Language Association (MLA). PAMLA hosts an annual scholarly humanities conference for approximately 800 to 1,000 members, and its annual conference is a great space to showcase your research and hear from other humanities scholars.
